  4. I am an AuDHD writer who tends to forget things rather easily. Things become easier to process for me personally with more time and repetition, so if I do ask for clarification or something of the sort, all I ask for is patience! I will do the same in return. ♥

  5. My character has his own stories, background plots, and things of that nature. Both my character and I are respectful and mindful of others' backgrounds, pronouns, etc.

  6. My character does not exist for ERP solely. While I believe it is a facet of the storytelling process, I believe that it has a time and a place. *I have very hard no's when it comes to interactions, and ERPing for the sake of ERPing is not something I care to do. Thank you for understanding.

  7. TW: MENTIONS OF TRIGGERING SUBJECTS.   personality.     Ephraim is a kind individual, one who harbors a deep love for Etheirys and her people. Growing up, he was a quiet child whose curiosity let his mind and his eyes wander wheresoever they desired. Most often, they would land upon tomes, activating a deep-seated wanderlust that prevails to this day.As smart as he is kind, Ephraim takes pride in his intelligence, boasting several academic accolades, yet never once using them to tout his own views above another. Humility is at the very core of his soul, sat right next to his unending thirst for knowledge.Alongside his academics, Ephraim is a lover of the arts, taking the time out of his busy days and nights to practice his singing or his painting skills. When not doing either, he's what one would call a 'foodie,' and spends no small amount of time in the kitchen either whipping up fantastic meals, or helping those he loves with gracing the dinner table with their own designs. On the battlefield, Ephraim is equal parts tactician, equal parts support, choosing to let his magic guide his every step, lest he make a mistake and see those he loves in harm's way. For them, no pain nor sorrow is too great, and for them, he would risk everything.A loyal friend, a devoted lover, and a child at heart. Ephraim is many things, yet 'boring' is never one of them... Despite what he might say.

headcanon one. Ephraim has a phenomenal singing voice, one he uses seldomly due to his fear of being judged.
headcanon two. If he loves you, he'll make you food. That is one of his greatest love languages.
headcanon three. Were it not for his friends, Ephraim would forget more often than not to eat or take care of himself and his needs in order to squeeze out just a bit more work. To say he's a workaholic is... an understatement.

font of aether. Due to Ephraim's unique circumstances in life, he has become a veritable font of aether, almost akin to a walking ley-line. This seemingly bottomless reserve of aether does, however, have its own limits.
pulse of life. Gifted with the Echo at an early age, his blessing comes not solely in the three standards that are the staple of being Echo-blessed. He has the unique capacity to hear and interact with the spirits of nature and objects. This also manifests in being able to speak with and guide the departed to the Lifestream.
happy alchemist. With his Echo, Ephraim has learned to listen to the voices of the things he gathers on his journeys. He turns them into what they desire to become, and in doing so, bypasses equivalent exchange. This process does take more time, but it's his preferred method, and the one that brings him the most success.

a story true to the heart.

LORE : origin .

Born the prince of the Kingdom of Almateria, Ephraim Duskhardt was to grow up the gallant heir to his nation's throne. A quiet kingdom on the western shores of Norvrandt, overseen by the crown rulers as well as the spirits of the land, Almateria was a fitting home for the prince. Born to a hume mother and an elven father, Ephraim grew up lauded as auspicious for the two bloods that made his heart beat. And he wore this proudly - for years, he would come into his own, a knight, proud and true to his family name, forever embracing the days to come.Sadly, in a cruel twist of fate, his life's string would be cut short. A demon known as Eligor, sent to his lands by one plotting from the shadows of another world, claimed the man's body for his own, turning his immense magical power towards the land he so loved, and destroying his mind. In a final bid to save not just the crown heir, but to undo what had been wrought, Ephraim's entourage of four - Scheherazade Aghili, Kaius Alixandros, Noah Ellmenreich, and Sularia Mul banded together in those final hours. One by one, they unleashed their own force against the demon in the man's skin, and drove out the fell being. As Ephraim lay dying, three of their number would sacrifice their physical forms to perform a forbidden ritual that would ensure his spirit and soul would live on, sending it to the Lifestream where it could be reincarnated on a place known only as 'The Source.' Sularia, the only remaining member, would complete the spell, taking the demon Eligor into her form and binding him to her own soul. As the kingdom lay burning, and their labours complete, all was awash in the most blinding Light. In the end, it was the Flood of Light which washed away Almateria's embers, consigned to be forgotten by all.One hundred long years would come and go in the time between Ephraim's fall, and his rebirth.Born to two Tural natives who were raised in the Old Sharlayan Colonies of Dravania, Lirio del Valle was received not with the praise that befit a prince, but with hatred for his form. His parents were of different races - a Hyuran father, an Elezen mother. Sadly, the Exodus would see this pair split, his biological father returning to Tural without ever knowing he'd given his love a child, and the mother, in a bid to secure funds for the Athenaeum during its fledgling days would marry a noble. Thinking herself pregnant with his child, she thought nothing of it until the day Lirio was born. His adoptive father, in rage, demanded the child be cast out, given to an orphanage in Ishgard. His own biological mother passed shortly after his birth.A few weeks would pass before Lirio, now Ephraim, would be adopted by a mysterious Elezen woman. She absconded with the child to the West Shroud, hiding him away using hush money from Ephraim's adopted father. She would keep his secret, and in return gain a willing pawn for her own schemes.

Ephraim truly loved her like a mother, this Soutine. She would teach him all manner of things - of alchemy, astromancy, and of the tales in his books. The fact that this child was Echo-blessed was yet another cog in Soutine's wheels. With no contact with the outside world, Ephraim befriended the spirits that visited him. Some were quiet, others harbored deep sorrow, or rage. But Ephraim loved them all the same.Until one day, a spirit he'd come to know would ask him a fateful question. "The world is so vast. Why not see it for yourself?"And so, during a particularly cold autumn, he packed what little he could - a small bag's worth of clothing and some breads he'd made with his mother the day prior, and he stormed off towards Dravania. He would chance upon a small hamlet, and take refuge inside a chocobo stable. The cold was biting, but the world was so beautiful. So vast. It was then that he would meet a boy of fourteen summers by the name of Cyrus Starcrest. While Ephraim tried to run, Cyrus offered him a place with he and his mother. In exchange for some manual labour around the farm, he would be allowed to stay with them. What little Cyrus and his mother had, they shared freely with Ephraim, who in turn made their struggles lesser. Cyrus's mother began smiling more often after his arrival.Growing nigh inseparable from his new friend, that fondness, in time, blossomed into love. Adolescence saw Ephraim grow up beautiful, and Cyrus a handsome man. Bull-headed, however, were the pair, and when Cyrus insisted on enlisting with the dragoons of Ishgard, Ephraim helped in every way he could.Eventually, Cyrus got his dream, and Ephraim was, once more, alone. He planned to confess his feelings, but the red moon drew closer and closer. He thought of Soutine, and knew that he had to sever his ties with the past to move forward with his decision to bare his heart to Cyrus. On the night of the Seventh Umbral Calamity, Ephraim confronted Soutine. What were once words became blows, magic against magic, equals in their own regard. Ephraim would win, but Soutine's plans were not without some fruit... And as a final act, she cast a vile spell, one that saw Ephraim erased from the pages of history. No one would remember him. Not even his beloved Cyrus. And as he lay there, surrendering to his fate, he spoke these words."You can take my memories, but you can never burn away my hope."As he spoke the words, the crimson moon fell, and Ephraim was jettisoned from the West Shroud, surviving by the grace of the tree branches that broke his fall.

LORE : a realm reborn .

Five long years had come and gone in the blink of an eye. The time between the Calamity and the end of those five years was spent in tomes and magical practice. The first four months after the Fall, he would spend bedridden, nursed back to health by the Conjurers of Stillglade Fane. Through this, the man grew an appreciation for the art of conjury, and soon enough, E-Sumi-Yan found himself another willing practitioner of the white magicks. In between learning conjury, Ephraim would also aid the Order of the Twin Adders in restoring the Black Shroud as much as he could. Two years of this went on until Ephraim decided to further his studies by taking to Vylbrand and learning what he could of Arcanima, before spending another year in Ul'dah, learning thaumaturgy. Wheresoever he found a magical field of study, his feet would land and plant themselves firmly until he had a solid grasp on the magicks he sought to learn. In no time at all, five years had passed, and Ephraim had mastery over his magick to show for it. It was high time he spent less time alone and more time being of use to the realm, or so he thought. That was when he enlisted with the Sparrow's Call - a free company of four members who were looking to make a genuine change in the world. For a year, he'd be happy enough with them, learning what he could, traveling the world, helping those in need. He'd found a family again, after so long.

His mind traveled back to those days. Those faces he couldn't remember, and he wondered if this was what he had been searching for all this time.Until the fateful day came of the dragons' assault on the Steps of Faith. The Sparrow's Call was tasked with assisting those they could, and Ephraim was to join them. Yet as he rushed to their side, he was knocked out cold, and dragged away from the fighting. When he awoke, he was strung up, bleeding into a chalice to fuel foul rituals. He remained there for what felt like an eternity, until a glint of light broke through the darkness. The Sparrows. Shattering the man's fetters, they placed him in the care of Magnus, their leader, and one by one, Ephraim heard them fall. The kidnappers, now revealed to be the Lambs of Dalamud, set off a bomb within the cavern they'd taken Ephraim, and in a final act, Magnus, the leader of the Sparrow's Call, dashed towards the exit. At the mouth of the cave, he'd throw the bloodied Ephraim through, never making it past the cave-in.This would be the tale Ephraim would keep forever a secret. Even knowing all he did, he couldn't save them. The quiet return to the empty halls of the place he once called home was heart-rending, and in that same silence he remained. Once more, he packed his bags, and set his sights on Ishgard. Perhaps fate would be kinder to him there.

LORE : heavensward .

Ephraim could never have imagined how wrong he would be. Among the gray cobblestones and white snow, Ephraim found nothing remotely close to a home upon his arrival. The cold was cruel, but the people even more so for someone of his unique birth. He'd felt looks on him before, but never so vicious as those of the Ishgardians who looked upon him with scorn because of his appearance. One by one, he'd offer his services to the various chirurgeons and medical wards during the war, each one turning him down, save for one.The Starcrest Clinic was run by a man who was a veteran of the Dragonsong War, one Cyrus Starcrest. The name felt... familiar, nostalgic. And so, Ephraim went, and sure enough, a therapist by that name lived there. Ephraim would come to him not as a worker, but as a patient at first, coming and going as he worked to heal those he could. Eventually, Ephraim opened up and spoke of opening his own practice, a thought which sparked something within the other man. Cyrus offered Ephraim a place in his own practice, an offer which Ephraim couldn't refuse. And so it was; the Starcrest Clinic was known throughout the Brume as a place where all could seek aid, no matter their stature or their ties. Their reputation preceded them. Cyrus would remain in the city's walls, while Ephraim went to the front lines, aiding all he could with his knowledge of healing magic. One particularly snowy eve, the city fell into disarray - Haurchefant Greystone had been slain in the Vault, and the city's commander, Aymeric de Borel, injured above that. Worse still, it seemed the perpetrator for this act was none other than Pope Thordan and the Heavens' Ward. The outpouring of those whose faith had been tested pushed the Starcrest Clinic to its limits, and Ephraim was deployed time and again, not for mending wounds, but for actual combat. The battles were harrowing, but Ephraim found comfort in knowing he was doing all he could now.

The city's faith was toppled, and the truths of the Dragonsong War's origin were revealed to all. Soon after, Nidhogg would assault Ishgard one final time. The assault was held back, but the injured needed care. But this time, he was not alone. Much to his surprise and joy, many others had joined the call to action, and soon it was enough that he and Cyrus could catch their breaths. The pair had come together under times of hardship, and never once got to truly know one another. It was time to fix that, he resolved. Never having been to Ishgard before the war, Ephraim knew little of the city, while Cyrus knew much and more. They would both take time out of their days to at least try and get to know one another in that space between the war's climax and the aftermath.Ephraim was quiet about it, but he grew incredibly fond of Cyrus. Watching him tend to patients, restoring their minds, hearing their pleas made his heart flutter like a thousand little butterflies took residence within. His mind would wander, day after day, and he'd find himself smiling more around Cyrus. In time, he grew to stop caring about what the others in Ishgard said about his appearance. After all, the ones who knew him never seemed to mind, so why should he?As soon as the thoughts began to cross his mind, Cyrus received a letter from a man named Uga'to Colyoghi, summoning him to the East to offer his aid to those souls in need.Would he be alone again? ...No. Not this time. With resolve burning in his eyes, he made his plan clear to Cyrus: he would accompany him to the East, and meet his friend. Wherever he went, Ephraim would follow.

LORE : stormblood .

Time on the boat to Kugane seemed to fly by with Cyrus in his life. Eventually, they would arrive in Hingashi, in the port city of Kugane. In the four months they'd spent on that boat, Ephraim would act as the interpreter and translator for Cyrus during their endeavours. Ephraim would give Cyrus regional knowledge, and for once, put the Echo he'd been blessed with to good use. After all, he wanted Cyrus and Uga'to to reunite as well.Kugane was unlike anything Ephraim had ever experienced before. It was all so much, but in the best ways possible. The food, the drinks, the people, the culture, it was astounding to him just how much this place pulsed with life. With Cyrus and Uga'to reunited, it was time for him to help. The Starcrest Clinic opened their doors once more, aiding all they could with the same motto as before - no matter your status or your finances, you would always find help with them. Ephraim found no shortage of work with the shipwrights and those in need of health services due to the more illicit ways of life in the city.Ephraim spent months teaching Cyrus how to speak in the commonly spoken tongue of Hingashi, and noticed that his friend had learned to relax more in that time as well. Ephraim chalked it up to Uga'to's influence, as the Miqo'te was more laid-back and free, far less structured than either of the two of them for certain.Word soon spread far and wide that war was brewing back home in the West, and that an acquaintance he'd made back in Gridania was asking for him to lend his aid.

Though he was loath to admit it, he still bore the guilt of what happened years ago with the Sparrow's Call, and so he swore to do all he could now.He would ask Cyrus to hear him out, and explain his plan in great detail. Cyrus lamented his inability to fight, and ultimately chose to stay with Uga'to in the East. In that moment, Cyrus confessed his love to Ephraim... Ephraim, in return, made Cyrus a promise. Upon his return, he'd tell Cyrus how he felt, as a guarantee that he would return to him once the fighting was done.Months passed by, and in that time, Ephraim became a formidable member in the Ala Mhigan resistance, befriending a woman by the name of Lilith Dartancours - one who held a strong tie to the adopted father that discarded Ephraim as a child. Ephraim, alongside the Ala Mhigan woman, would triumph in the battles that came. When the time came to siege Ala Mhigo's castle, he would remain in the back line, offering healing while wishing her the best. Upon the Warrior of Light's victory, they gathered and celebrated. The food and feast that night was sublime, and thoughts of Cyrus came flooding back. Would he be proud? Would he still love him the same?As he stood to join Lilith, he felt his vision grow hazy, before he collapsed. Sparing no time, Lilith would move Ephraim to Rhalgr's Reach, ultimately placing the man in her care back in Ishgard.

LORE : shadowbringers .

When he awoke, the sky above him was bright. Sickeningly bright. The stones of Ala Mhigo were nowhere to be seen, replaced with the violet hues of the white-bark trees, clear blue waters reflecting the sickly light from the heavens, and the glow of... the Crystal Tower?Though he had no idea where he was or how he arrived, he made way for the Crystal Tower. It was the only thing he could recognize, though things felt familiar all the same for some strange reason. This place was known as the Crystarium, and the world was known as Norvrandt. Though he should have been shocked, Ephraim felt oddly at ease in this new land. But why was he called here? He had no clue. Still, he did what he does best, and spent his time researching, learning about this world. The first week, he was full of hope. Still looking for a way home. The first year, he'd practically cried himself to sleep every night. Monsters known as Sin Eaters, the loss of life all around, and the loss of everything and everyone he'd come to know was wearing on him. And that light. That sickening, dismal light, ever-present like a watchful, scornful eye. He grew to hate the Light. One day, he decided to not immediately head straight to the Catenaries to sleep, electing to spend some time at the Wandering Stairs. He wasn't one to drink, but why not? One time could not hurt... And somehow, it did. He awoke the day after with a Highlander man in his bed by the name of Corvus. Ephraim was quick to startle him awake, and ask him what happened, but the man just looked at him and called him pretty.Whether it was the loneliness weighing in on him, or a desperate need to be useful, Ephraim accepted Corvus's advances. The man was a drunkard, toxic and sought to use Ephraim for his own ends, be they carnal or combat-oriented. And Ephraim was, for all nine years of this, content. He thought, perhaps, this was to be his fate.

Ten years had come and gone and he'd heard nothing nor found a way back to his old world. Had time flowed like it did in this world?Did Cyrus forget him? Did Lilith, and Uga'to?Then, finally, like a star in the night, the Light was sliced open, and a beautiful night sky shone down upon Lakeland. Soon enough, the night returned to all corners of Norvrandt, and the now-known Warrior of Darkness and his friends would begin making preparations to return home.To Etheirys.Yet the light returned, blazing hard and fast for one instant. The Crystal Exarch went missing, and the Warrior injured. That was the last time Ephraim saw the Warrior of Darkness. In a desperate bid to hold on to some semblance of the love he thought he felt for Corvus, he sat him down and asked him to get his act straight. Corvus, instead, revealed he had met someone else - someone who could heal him and bear him a child... And left him right where he'd found him in the Wandering Stairs nine years prior.Ephraim's remaining time in the First was spent wandering listlessly. And when finally the curtain of night fell upon the realm once more, he felt his vision once more grow hazy... He fell, but not onto the ground. When he opened his eyes, he was back home, in Ishgard, surrounded by Lilith and Cyrus. One year had passed for those on Etheirys, but Ephraim had a decade separated from those he loved. It would take time to regain his strength, but he would tell them all he knew of this other world, and resolve then and there, no matter what, he would return and help those in need. For both worlds, he'd fight, though he knew not why.

LORE : endwalker & present .

Friends he'd made while in the East reached out. In the year since he'd been gone, Etheirys itself felt like it was gasping for air. Towers had been built around the world by the Telophoroi, and the Grand Companies and Scions of the Seventh Dawn were swamped. This was what influenced Ephraim and his companions to form a free company - the Remnants of Crystal. In the interim from its founding to the setup, Ephraim made good on his promise, and confessed his love to Cyrus. Finally, after all these years, he would embrace a real and true love - one that he'd waited for all these years. Cyrus was inseparable from Ephraim, protecting him and making sure he was safe at all times. So worried was the man for Ephraim's safety that he took up the lance again.Together, they rallied like-minded individuals from across the realm over. With Ephraim at the helm, the Remnants of Crystal was born, a company that acted on its own to help those that needed aid. To do all they could for those they could yet save. Many battles came and went, but each time they proved triumphant. It was not long before Ephraim received a letter from a distant family member of Soutine, urging him to come to Old Sharlayan and study magic there. Ephraim's friends from the East had gone on ahead a month prior, and finally, Ephraim made the preparations and let everyone know.Within a moon, they were all en route to Old Sharlayan. In that one month before the move, he and Cyrus were wed, and Ephraim made a decision - those memories of Corvus he held in his heart like an open wound would be the fuel for a ritual. Cyrus had sustained a wound that rendered him aether-null during the Dragonsong War. Using the memories and his own magic, Ephraim would undo the wound entirely, giving Cyrus his life back. And Ephraim forgot Corvus. It was too deep a wound for him to bear.In Old Sharlayan, Ephraim learned the sage arts and became a sage of great renown. But fate conspired once again, for as soon as this feat was done, the Remnants of Crystal were called to Garlemald to aid in the march against the Telophoroi. It was here that Ephraim would come face to face with a sorceress, one who clawed at his very soul and tore out the magic within the man.

With this emergency, Cyrus made the executive call to travel to Radz-at-Han, where Uga'to, now Dorian Colyoghi and his wife Lilith were waiting. They were to reunite, and move to Ishgard, where Lilith offered her home as a new base of operations. The Remnants of Crystal, now renamed to the Crystal Oath remained in Radz-at-Han for one night. The day of their departure, the Final Days erupted. Cyrus and Ephraim were in Yedlihmad when the worst of it broke out, and only barely did they escape, just in time to rejoin with the others of their group. While Cyrus was sent to the various settlements to save others with the Oath, Ephraim and a handful of them went into the sacred forest of Vanaspati to help save anyone they could.A vain struggle. The sorceress attacked once more, nearly turning Ephraim into a blasphemy... But hope shone brightly within his heart, and he tore out the fragment of magic she'd stolen from him. Along with his magic came a flood of memories. Another life, another time, another cycle. And the sorceress was none other than Sularia Mul, thrall to the demon Eligor from his life in Norvrandt. They staved off the attack and regrouped in Ishgard, where Ephraim and his closest allies worked together, mixing magic and magitek to build the Bifrost - a portal to Norvrandt. With the Warrior of Light handling things in Etheirys, this was their call to action, and so they walked into the other world together. Far into the Empty, to Ephraim's ancestral homeland of Almateria. The battle they fought against Eligor was brutal, and in the chaos of it all, once more was Ephraim nearly lost. But hope... that thing he clung to so desperately, won. In a final fight, the Crystal Oath was triumphant, and Ephraim laid his past to rest. The prize for his war was the sword named after the kingdom itself. Driving it into the ground, Ephraim coursed immense aether into the blade, restoring the flow of aether to the land of Almateria. Life would flourish here once more.Settling down now after the events of the Final Days, he and his husband have elected to continue to help the realm, albeit from a more hands-off approach.
They now spend many of their days managing small businesses, the Crystal Oath, and making sure that the memories that they once lost of one another are never touched again.
And even should his memories be taken, his hope can never be burned away. And that hope will carry him through the night, higher and higher.
